Exceptional opportunity for 3 enthusiasts to join the Assembly in community outreach to support feedback & participation in Treaty negotiations!

This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures’ of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

Overview

The Assembly’s objective is to promote the self-determination and empowerment of Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians through the Treaty process by:

  • Acting as the First Peoples’ Representative Body to negotiate and agree Statewide Treaty and Interim Agreements,
  • Acting as the Aboriginal Representative Body to support Treaty negotiations (including administering the Self-Determination Fund),
  • Enabling Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Victorians to exercise sovereignty, the right to self-determination and other rights; including those contained in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

The Role

  • This is an exciting opportunity for an individual, who will be responsible for engaging with local Aboriginal Communities, individuals, and organisations to educate them on the Treaty process and make sure their voice is heard.

Key Duties

  • Plan and organise community-based events to build strong relationships.
  • The promotion of enrolment and encouraging participation in Assembly elections and activity.
  • Being a sounding board and listening to the feedback from Aboriginal Community.
  • Delivering the feedback received to the Assembly for consideration and potential action.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Victorian Aboriginal Communities
  • Experience working with the Victorian Aboriginal Community
  • Solid communication skills
  • Strong influencing skills
  • Working to challenging deadlines and following a plan
  • Being well organised
  • A collaborative and respectful approach
  • Being a creative problem solver
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite
  • You must hold a full and unrestricted drivers license
  • Current Working With Children Check

Salary & Term

  • Ongoing, subject to continued funding
  • Salary from $85,000 per annum (full-time equivalent) plus superannuation plus salary packaging, based on experience and expertise.

Location

This role extends its reach across the Melbourne region with some regional travels as required.
