Updates from Assembly Meeting in Mildura and Lake Mungo

Nov 24, 2025

This month Assembly Members gathered to discuss the next steps moving forward into the Treaty era.

It was an amazing few days on Latji Latji, Ngintait, and Nyeri Nyeri Country in Mildura and Paakantji, Ngyimpaa and Mutthi Mutthi Country over at Lake Mungo.

Members discussed the Assembly’s transition into the Treaty era, preparing to launch Gellung Warl with the collective strength of Community.

Thanks to Uncle Daniel Kelly and Jason Kelly for Welcoming our Members and staff to Paakantji, Ngyimpaa and Mutthi Mutthi Country.

We loved the deadly performance by the Women’s/Men Aboriginal Dance Group Mildura, including Beltane Thomas, Lakisha Thomas, Lacuna Thomas, Charlotte Thomas, Taya Thomas, Bindi and River. Thank you for getting some of our Members and staff up and dancing!

Our gratitude to Aunty Tanya and Uncle Ivan for guiding us on a tour of Lake Mungo, a World Heritage area and home to the Mungo Lady and Mungo Man.

Together, Members and staff were encouraged to reflect on the sacred rituals practiced at this place by First Peoples for over 40,000 years and to slow down and connect to Country.

We had a great time meeting all of the Community who came to our free dinner to share a feed and a yarn. It was awesome hearing about the work people are doing and sharing stories.

Thanks for having us!
